Summer: It's warm, it's bright, the days are long and the sun on your face makes you feel alive. That's all very well until September becomes October and October becomes Darkness & Cold, i.e. November. Life is more difficult in winter. There are decisions to be made about layers, shoes, umbrellas and even exams. It's dark when you wake up and dark when you finish class. Resting smiles turn to resting frowns, which turn into openly weeping throughout the miserable day. Here we are now, in the depths of the worst month of the year, and our cities are flooding like baths. Puddles on the streets, puddles 'round my feet, puddles in my clothes and sniffles in my nose.
Oh to be back in those summer months, frolicking in shorts and a t-shirt, comparing tan-lines and playing barefoot football in the dying light at 11pm. Watching the working man despair as he returns to his desk for the afternoon while you crack open your third can of the day, immediately after your second breakfast. Indeed, there is no greater time in a person's life than the summer holidays during their college years. Yes, you may be broke.... but you are also totally and utterly free.
