Acceptable In The 50's

Ah the 50's...A time during which life seemed that little bit more simple, more fun, more spontaneous. You didn't have to worry about keeping your online persona in top notch, you lived in the here and now. Ever wonder what life was really like back then? Well, we're here to give you a little taster of the life and times of that era in all of its glory. Here are things that were acceptable in the 50's that are making a comeback.

1) The Side Part And Sharp Slick Back

The 50's, in my humble opinion, was the best gentlemanly era there ever was. There was something so masculine about the men with their sharp suits and greased back hair. Thankfully, there now seems to be a turn back in the direction of greased back hair, combs in your back pocket and a sharp side parting because not only does it look confident and strong, it's a look that gets better over time, so whip out your comb and update this look for the 21st century right now.

2) Rockabilly

Rockabilly, that rock and roll, fun-loving lifestyle that started it's lifespan in the 50's has spanned the decades and still pops up from time to time, inspiring not just music, but style and a very way of life too. Throw on some Elvis, get your dancing shoes on and embrace all that was the 50's way of life. Are you all shook up yet?

3) Going On Proper Dates

For years, the only dates most of us were familiar with was meeting up with a group of friends and trying our best to get over the evening as quickly as possible. Thankfully though, the old ritual of 50's style dating- being picked up, going to see a film, going for a drink in the corner of a secluded bar or even going out for a romantic meal is back on the top of our list of priorities when it comes to romance. So boys, shine up those shoes, ladies, get those heels on and prepare to be wooed tonight.

4) Drive-in Cinemas

I'll always remember being a child watching 50's movies and wishing that I too could drive up, sit back in my convertible pink car and take it all in, content in myself. Well, happily for us, drive in cinemas are now back in vogue. From pop-up movie nights in the park to monthly cinema nights during the summer, drive up, sit back and imagine being in a whole different time era.

5) Being Sharply Dressed At All Times

The 50's looked so glamorous, didn't they? You can bet your bottom dollar that you wouldn't have seen people doing their grocery shopping in tracksuits or onesies back then. Wiggle dresses, cropped trousers, blouses, heels, pearls, tailored suits, shirts and shiny shoes, it was a more handsome time, to put it mildly. Whereas five years ago, we were best known for hoodies and fat pants, dressing up is now the thing to do and speaking as someone who detests tracksuit bottoms with every fibre of her being, I am incredibly grateful for that. Shine up, press that suit and strut your stuff.
