15 Things Irish People Do That Australians Think Are Weird
As a newcomer to Ireland, I've had to learn a lot in a short amount of time. The Irish are an interesting people, though I can understand the irony of questioning anything they do when I'm from literally one of the most bizarre places on earth. Nevertheless, here's 15 things Irish people do that Australians think are weird...
1. Saying "Sure look it"
I still do not know why or how this is used. Please stahp.
2. Talk about how cold it is... all the time

Australians have the whinging thing nailed and we'd appreciate it if you didn't complain about something so bloody obvious. You'd think it'd never been cold before!
3. Drink tea constantly
As someone who never drinks tea, I do wonder what the fascination is with this brewed beverage. It's neither thirst-quenching nor very satisfying. To be sure.
4. Sitting on ya phones while you're minding a shop
Can't count the amount of times I've walked into a shop in Dublin and some dude or chick has their phone it their hand. No hello, no nothing. Would never get away with that shit in Australia!
5. Praise the sun
You kids and your sun. Back home we hide away from it like it's the devil but here you appreciate the hell out of it. Tbh I admire your appreciation.
6. Father Ted
I must have missed the boat on Father Ted because it honestly goes over my head whenever someone at work quotes it every 5 minutes. Lowkey I want to watch it...
7. Salt and vinegar on chips
What on God's green earth is this shit? Send halp. Also, I've noticed Maccas (McDonald's) and KFC don't salt the fries for you. The oil makes it stick, people!
8. Pork sausages
'Nuff said. Beef or GTFO
9. Watch Neighbours/Home and Away
If you want to be pretend to be Australian, don't watch either of these abominations.
10. Obsession with tan/loads of makeup
We see "Snog Marry Avoid" and "Geordie Shore" on Aussie TV and we thought it was all just in Britain... we were wrong.
11. Calling police "guards"/Garda/Gardai
You don't get to call them pigs, po-po, coppers, cops etc!
12. Go to a million different shops instead of one
You need Kmart/department stores, guys. Behold:
There's clothes, homewares, furniture, kitchenware, toys, sportsgear, entertainment... everything.
13. The luas line...?

Why.... what... how? I see that it's now being connected but honestly why would you ever make a light rail system that didn't connect in the first place?
14. Grown men saying mammy
This is great to watch. Lil weird though.
15. Saying bye
An Irish person cannot say bye without saying "Okay, bye bye, bye bye bye, cya, bye!"
In all honesty you're not that weird. Love youse.
