5 Netflix Hidden Gems You Need To Watch
The weekend is upon us. Time to go home to your parents, wither up in a ball on the couch for the weekend, get mammy to wash the clothes and enjoy a couple of days recovery with our Netflix recommendations. These are the shows that you may not have heard about but are definitely worth a watch.
Why? Because we have obviously tremendous taste.
1. Burning Love
We're starting off with one of the best comedy series that has flown completely under the radar to most. This is basically a spoof of the likes of tv shows such as The Bachelor and The Bachelorette.
Not only is the premise already great but it also boasts a stellar cast, including the likes of Jennifer Aniston, Ben Stiller, Paul Rudd, Michael Cera, Rob Delaney and loads more.

2. The Overnighters
On a much more serious note, The Overnighters is one of those documentaries that makes you question morality and life in general. Jesse Moss' The Overnighters is about a pastor who lets newly arrived workers in North Dakota stay in his church until they find a home. However, it is so so much more than that. What it really tells us is that life is fucked up.
The recent oil boom in the formerly quiet state of North Dakota has led to thousands of Americans and immigrants arriving looking to get jobs. Such was the demand that people with the most questionable of backgrounds were gaining employment within a couple of days of arriving. However, this of course led to a severe housing shortage and the small town of Williston was one of the worst effected.
Enter Pastor Jay Reinke to the story.
The Overnighters will make you question yourself, our idea of community and society's ability to forgive and allow people rebuild their lives. However as the documentary goes on it will cause you to question the actions of Reinke and what happened after the cameras stopped rolling.
It offers no straight narrative. This isn't some sort of heartwarming tale of love and acceptance - it's much more real than that.
3. Wilfred
Adapted by Family Guy stalwart David Zuckerman, Wilfred follows Elijah Wood's character Ryan through the everyday trials and tribulations of life in your '30s. Oh, and his best friend is an imaginary, stoner dog named Wilfred - literally just the hilarious series creator Jason Gann in a faceless dog costume (who is, for all intents and purposes, human, until he finds himself in random canine situations - such as going mental at the postman or bewilderingly chasing lasers).
Mike Hale, who wrote in The New York Times of Wilfred: "Some shows aspire to cult status; this one goes straight there, practically bypassing the need to be broadcast at all." It's the perfect show to chill out and watch at 2 o'clock on a Friday morning or, if you're in college, any morning. The series probably does hang on the fact that Gann provides such a convincing impression of a dog who smokes *a lot* of weed, but it's just so absurd it works to perfection.
4. The Trip
Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon going around England talking shite to each other. Need I say anymore? It's absolute quality.
5. Hey Arnold!
Lookit, if you want to live a true college life then there's going to have to be a day where you doing nothing but watch cartoons while eating an entire box of cereal.
And what better show than Hey Arnold! to do it for? The cartoon about a lad whose head is the shape of a football is arguably even better on reflection. As an 'adult' you'll appreciate just how clever the writing really was. Plus they also included a couple of sly jokes that you may not have gotten as a kid.
