A New Spotify Playlist Proves Just How Incredible Irish Music Is Right Now
Mainstream music in Ireland has always been predominantly pop and country but thankfully in the last few years, a branch away from traditional Irish pop is slowly starting to happen.
Traditionally airplay for Irish acts includes well-known musicians like The Cranberries, U2 or contemporaries like Kodaline or Gavin James, most people could assume that the Irish music scene is predominantly quite monocultural. Spotify's latest playlist indicates that Ireland's elevation of sound reflects a changing Ireland - there are more urban, contemporary and R'n'B artists breaking into the mainstream of Irish music than ever before.
I'm excited to see an eclectic mix of Irish talents getting the recognition they deserve in this urban playlist aptly titled 'The New Éire'. My personal favourites from the playlist include songs by Soulé ('Troublemaker', 'What Do You Know'), Sequence ('Problem') and Killa Yan ('Like I Used To').
