The Downton Abbey Movie Is Happening Dear Friends
When the Crawley family left our screens in 2015 we wondered would a Downton film happen.
Well, fans, it looks like you're in luck! Speaking to the Associated Press, Michael Edelstein, president of NBCUniversal International Studios, said that the film has “been in the works for some time” and production is expected to begin in 2018.
At the "Downton Abbey: The Exhibition" in Singapore Edelstein said:
We are working on getting the script right and then we’ve got to figure out how to get the [cast] together...Because as you know, people go on and do other things. But we’re hopeful to make a movie sometime next year.
Although Edelstein hopes to get all 20 returning cast members for the film. Sophie Mc Shera, who plays Daisy, is just one of the many actors who seem on board with making a return to the abbey.
Oh, well, you’ve got confirmation before us. We have no idea if that’s happening...But we would all love to be part of the film if it was to happen, for sure.
Lady Edith, played by Laura Carmichael, is waiting for confirmation from her agent and said “We’re hoping that will happen soon.”
The 6th series ended with a Christmas special in December 2015. The writer of the series, Julian Fellowes, had this to say about the script:
I keep being asked about the Downton film...I’ve done some work on the script, because I don’t want to find there’s a green light and no script ready. But we’re still waiting for that green light from the studio. Then the biggest difficulty will be rounding up all the cast as, compared with most series, it has such a large cast. And it needs them to feel Downtonesque.
Well, it looks like they finally got that green light! We can't wait.
