Watch: The Michael Collins Coin Ad Features An Uncomfortable Fake Irish Accent
On a scale of zero to Father Ted, we can't describe how uncomfortable this fake Irish accent makes us feel.
We've all heard those awful Irish accent impressions and uncontrollably cried for our green isle. Usually, you'll find some celeb or other trying to do said accent in an interview with Ryan Tubridy or in a film that should never have been made. We've grown used to such inaccuracies, even if it's not okay.
What we never expected was for advertising on TV to move in and take everyone else's place. The ad comes from Freemedal.ie, which is owned by a British company, who sell coins with historical figures, in this case, it's Michael Collins. It looks like the company is trying to sell us more than just some Michael Collins memorabilia as the accent deployed by the voice-over mentions some very "oirish" sounding words whilst sounding entirely British.
The video was posted by Reddit user 'Magclollab' and Reddit users weren't too happy with the 'Irish' accent. Comments such as 'shocking' and 'that hurts my ears' graced the Reddit thread as users tried to decipher the bizarre accent.
You can decide for yourself what the accent really is. Here's the Irish/British/ European accent in full:
Is it as bad as we think?
