HBO Will Turn Game Of Thrones Filming Locations In Ireland Into Tourist Attractions
While the most successful show of all time might be ending in 2019, fans are worried about getting their next Westeros fix. Well, we have good news for loyal followers of the Stark family.
Bosses behind Game Of Thrones are planning to turn the show's set pieces and filming locations into exhibitions and tourist attractions right here in Ireland.
The show's legacy will be remembered by allowing tourists access to locations such as Winterfell, Castle Black, and Kings Landing as well as a tour of Linen Mill Studios in Northern Ireland.
Not only will the Game of Thrones attractions give fans an idea of the physical scale of the filming locations, but the tour will also include an up close and personal experience with the technology and behind the scenes skills required to create a show like GOT.
Each site is set to feature a collection of costumes, props, art, weapons, and decorations from the series alongside a digital walking experience.
HBO's Jeff Peters, Vice President of the company, announced the collaboration between Northern Ireland and GOT:
HBO is thrilled to celebrate the work of the Game of Thrones creative team and crew by preserving these locations and inviting fans to visit Northern Ireland and explore Westeros in person. We look forward to opening the gates and sharing the excitement of stepping inside these amazing sets with Game of Thrones fans from around the world. The opportunity to celebrate Northern Ireland's pivotal role in the life and legacy of the show and share its culture, beauty and warmth is also a huge inspiration behind these legacy projects.
Northern Ireland has played a pivotal role in the making of Game of Thrones over the last decade. John McGrillen, Chief Executive of Tourism NI is calling the Game Of Thrones attraction a "gamechanger" for Northern Ireland on a global tourism level.
The attraction is set to open in 2019 and an official date will be announced in the coming months.
