Before They Hit The Big Time: Celebrities' Old Jobs
With the rumours circulating that Susan Boyle has applied for a job at Ladbrokes, we here at Collegetimes, thought it would be fun to look at some of the oter mundane (or abnormal) jobs that other celebrities have had at one point:
Kanye West- Gap
Crazed rapper Kanye West wasn't always hanging out with America's most reprehensible family. Once upon a time, he worked at Gap. We can only imagine how frustrating that must have been for a lyrical genius. He has actually rapped about this time on a track called "Spaceship" from the College Dropout.
James Franco- Luvin' It
Before he was confounding us with his odd films and smug goatee, James Franco like many before and after him (including Rachel McAdams), was working at McDonald's. He has spoken about this on Inside the Actor's Studio, revealing to us that he used to even try some accents out on the drive-through. Franco has of course put this commoner's life behind him- he's now an A-list actor and a professor, funnily enough.
Madonna- Dunkin' Donuts
The Queen of Pop who won't take the retirement route from a subtle suggestion once worked as the cashier at a Dunkin' Donuts, many moons ago. She allegedly didn't last long in the NY Times Square post because she used to squirt the jelly on customers. Even then, she was pushing the boundaries.
Hugh Jackman- Taught P.E.
That's right-Wolverine used to whip others into shape, when he worked as a P.E. teacher at a school in England. There's even video footage of him, below, remembering this with an ex-pupil:
Johnny Depp- Pens
Johnny Depp, the acclaimed character-actor, once made ends meet by selling pens. He had a band, famously, who didn't quite take off but hope would soon come in the form of the far less acclaimed Nicholas Cage, who convinced Depp to give acting a try. His first movie was A Nightmare on Elm Street.
He dressed like this selling pens but don't quote me on that.
Jay Z- Crack Cocaine
Jay Z used to sell crack cocaine to make his dues. Having grown up in a tough neighbourhood, he aspired to become a world class rapper and did just that. Today, he hardly sells any at all.
Obama- Ice-Cream
Many US Presidents come from unexpected places. Jimmy Carter was a peanut farmer. Ronald Reagan was an actor. George Bush was the son of a President. Obama's first job was as an ice-cream scooper in the mid-70s, from which, he claimed to have lost his taste for ice-cream. Well, politicians have been known to lie on occasion:
Channing Tatum- Wasn't Acting In Magic Mike
You may have thought Channing Tatum gave a stellar performance in Magic Mike but you may have not realised, this was in the Sylvester Stallone sense of playing close to home. Tatum, used to go under the name "Chan Crawford" and stripped at a nightclub- from which the movie's experiences were derived. You can look up a picture for that yourself, here's one from G.I. Joe.
That's just a few for now. There have of course been many other interesting career paths for the famous. Sting was a teacher. Brad Pitt drove limos for strippers and dressed in a giant chicken costume. Even more worked at McDonald's. You never know- your job right now could become the hilarious footnote in your biography!
