Wheatus Have Made An Irish Cover Of 'Teenage Dirtbag' And It's Pure Joy
If you haven’t already heard on the radio or seen the hype on Twitter, CEOL 2018’s first release of the year is an Irish version of the most legendary song of the century; Teenage Dirtbag, or as its now known, Stóchach Brochach. Eoghan McDermott from 2fm, who has created the CEOL CD’s for students across the country along with the help from Conradh na Gaeilge and Raidió RíRá, traveled over to New York last month to meet with Wheatus and record an impressive, phonetically correct, Irish version of the unforgettable single that made them who they are.
Here's the official video for Stóchach Brochach by 2FM, with snippets of Eoghan's trip along with clips of what must have been a looooong recording process.
The lead singer from Wheatus was over joyed with the chance to be a part of the annual release from 2fm, as he has Irish ancestory - his Grandmother being from County Roscommon and he claims she was a native Irish speaker herself.
So very honored to have been asked. We all have journeys, ours is a part of my Grandmother’s which began in Roscommon a century ago.

The band jumped at the chance to be completely involved with the project, and lead singer Brendan B. Brown has done an incredible job at learning the language (probably better than most of us), and has given a new lease of life to our ancient native tongue.
Nearly a month on from the songs successful reception in Ireland, with hundreds of shares on every different platform, @HairyBabyTees have brought out t-shirts with the lyrics “ag éisteacht le Iron Maiden beabaí” from Wheatus’s new hit single Stóchach Brochach printed on them.

@HairyBabyTees are a Dublin based store who keep every t-shirt they produce Irish, and Irish humoured. You can browse their store, and choose your size Stóchach Brochach t-shirt here.
As part of Bliain na Gaeilge 2fm, Raidió RíRá and Conradh na Gaeilge have made it their mission to deliver a copy of CEOL 2018 to every secondary student in the country. As of yet they haven’t given away any more details of the next stars of the charts who are giving Gaeilge a go. We’ll just have to wait and see...
