Normal People Nominated For Four Emmy Awards, Including One For Paul Mescal

If there was an award for modelling O'Neills shorts, it would be named after Paul Mescal.

Not only that, but manufacturers of tiny rope chains owe the former Kildare minor footballer a lot of money after his star turn in Normal People. If awards for shorts-wearing and necklaces aren't forthcoming, at least Mescal has been recognised for his acting chops.

For his role as Connell Waldron in the hit series, Mescal has been nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in A Limited Series. Overall, the series garnered four nominations in total.

Lenny Abrahamson has been nominated for Outstanding Directing For A Limited Series, Sally Rooney and Alice Birch for Outstanding Writing For A Limited Series, and Louise Kiely for Outstanding Casting For A Limited Series.

Speaking about the achievment, executive producers of Normal People and co-founders of Element Pictures, Andrew Lowe and Ed Guiney, said: “Congratulations from all of us at Element to Paul, Lenny, Sally, Alice and Louise for their Emmy nominations. The response to the show internationally has exceeded our wildest dreams and this is an incredible honour for the show and for everyone who worked on it.”

In terms of Mescal's competitors in the category of Lead Actor In A Limited Series Or Movie, he'll be up against Jeremy Irons (Watchmen), Hugh Jackman (Bad Education), Jeremy Pope (Hollywood), and Mark Ruffalo (I Know This Much).

We wish him the very best.

As for his immediate future, Mescal will be co-starring in The Deceived, the new thriller from Lisa McGee, the creator of Derry Girls.

The 72nd Emmy Awards will take place on September 20.
