Paul Mescal Felt 'Objectified' Receiving 'Intense DMs' After Normal People Aired
Paul Mescal said that he felt "objectified" by the amount of attention he received following his star turn in Normal People.
The Kildare native said that some of it was to be expected given the nature of some of the show's content, but it didn't make the fact any easier.
"I felt objectified after Normal People. It’s to be expected, given the intimacy of my scenes, but it doesn’t make it easier. I daren’t read some of the intense DMs I receive. But it’s not enough to put me off the industry.
"The power of Connell’s chain was completely unexpected. And a bit frightening! It became this totemic being that lived outside the show."
Mescal was talking in response to a question from Elle Magazine about why Paul Mescal in GAA shorts was such an appealing combination.
Both Mescal and Normal People co-star Daisy Edgar-Jones featured in the publications "movers and shakers" list, documenting 50 people who have made 2020 their own.
As we've talked about before, while the world burns in a cursed year, Paul Mescal has catapulted into superstardom. From playing minor football with Kildare to selling sausages/trips to Ballyhaunis to starring in a Rolling Stones video, it's not been a bad journey for the lad.
Furthermore, Mescal's 2020 isn't even close to finishing.
He stars in The Deceived, a show written by Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee, which will be shown on Virgin Media One this month.
Also, he's just been announced to play a role in Maggie Gyllenhaal's directorial debut The Lost Daughter. It'll also mark Mescal's first bow on the big screen.
At least we can all be safe in the knowledge that Paul Mescal is living his best life right now.
