People Are Raving About This New Netflix Crime Documentary
It's already winning awards:
Netflix is no stranger to the true crime genre. The streaming service has plucked relatively obscure stories such as Making a Murderer, The Keepers and Who Took Johnny and skillfully crafted them into gripping and gritty narratives.
Suddenly these shows are in the public domain and the hairs on the back of our necks begin to stand up.
Literally adding a five star stud (check out The Guardian review) to their already impressive belt of shows, this new Netflix crime documentary, Strong Island, is sure to ignite viewer's imaginations in equal measure. The man behind the compelling documentary, Yance Ford, explores the racially charged murder of his own brother, examining the killer's acquittal and the family's reaction.

It's already getting powerful reviews - The Guardian classed it as "extraordinary - capturing a family dynamic and intensity that is normally hard to depict" and The Sundance Film Festival honoured it with the Special Jury Award for Storytelling. It also got a whopping 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The documentary examines how the victim, 24-year-old William Ford Jr, became a prime suspect in his own murder. In 1992, the unarmed young man was killed in a dispute over a small traffic accident and the man responsible, a white 19-year-old mechanic, claimed self-defense.
The racial injustice narrative of Strong Island is particularly poignant in the wake of the Charlottesville rally and will surely be all the more significant given the filmmaker's personal take on the story.
The new Netflix crime documentary debuts on Netflix from September 15. Have a sneak peek below.
