Listen: The Rubberbandits Have Released A Very Important Song About Suicide
The Rubberbandits, Ireland's favourite carrier-bag clad comedians, and social commentators have released a new song and it marks something of a change in direction from their previous work.
This mightn't come as too much of a surprise to anyone who's seen any of Blindboy Boatclub's appearances on The Late Late Show over the past couple of years. The duo has become increasingly vocal about numerous political and social issues, particularly the plight of Generation Y in Ireland. Through various public appearances, the Rubberbandits have been attempting to bring attention to complex issues such as abortion, the role of religion in modern society and mental health.
The Rubberbandits new song, 'Sonny', very much focuses on the latter. It tries to shed light on the fact that for a large portion of Ireland's youth it can be difficult to see a future for themselves for a multitude of reasons and that Ireland is in the grips of what has been described as a 'suicide epidemic'. The subject matter makes the song a rather intense listen, but it is also pretty dang catchy.

The timing of the song's release comes in the wake of World Suicide Prevention Day which took place yesterday.
