Sam Smith's Released A New Song And It's Everything We Could've Wanted
The octave-sprawling songbird is back. Sam Smith, best known for Stay With Me, the song which defies all common sense for what human vocal chords should be capable of, released his first song in two years yesterday.
Smith's last release prior to this was in fact, Writing's On The Wall, the theme song for the 2015 Bond film Spectre. For this he won both the Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Original Song.
He has now returned with a song so quintessentially 'Sam Smith' that it is almost painful. It features some slow yet powerful build-ups; portions of the song are sung in a register a castrato would baulk at; some ol' fashioned percussive finger clicking and most of all, it's not just trying to pluck at your heart strings, it's like Sam Smith is attempting to burrow into your chest cavity to tear them out with his teeth. Listen here.
