21 Of The Most Ridiculous Laws Still In Effect

Laws can be weird. I mean it's illegal to smoke weed, but you can drink yourself into an angry mess every night with absolute impunity. Definitely weird. But the times are catching up and we're seeing conservative values being slowly washed away with our ridiculous laws. However, there are still some fairly crazy ones that exist. Here are 21 of them;

1. It is illegal to die in the Houses of Parliament. (Britain)

2. In Scotland, if someone knocks on your door and requires the use of your toilet, you must let them enter.

3. In the UK, it is illegal to handle a salmon in suspicious circumstances. (It doesn't specify why)

4. It is illegal to smoke any form of tobacco on Grafton Street. (Ireland)

5. In Britain, It is an act of treason to place a postage stamp bearing the British monarch upside-down.

6. Holders of the Lord Mayor awarded "Freedom of the City of Dublin" can legally avail of the following ancient privileges:

• They don't have to pay custom duties for goods brought into Dublin.

• They have the right to pasture sheep on common ground (as exercised by Bono bringing sheep into Stephen's Green).

• BUT, they must own a bow, a coat of mail, a helmet and a sword.

7. In the UK a pregnant woman can legally relieve herself anywhere she wants, including in a policeman's helmet.

8. The head of any dead whale found on the British coast automatically becomes the property of the King and/or Queen.

9. It is illegal to enter the Houses of Parliament in a suit of armour. (UK)

10. It is illegal to keep a pigsty in front of your house. (UK)

11. It is illegal in Tennessee for an atheist to hold office.

12. In Ohio, it is illegal to get a fish drunk.

13. In Bahrain, a male doctor can only examine the genitals of a woman in the reflection of a mirror.

14. In Japan, there is no age of consent for two females.

15. In France, it is illegal to name a pig Napoleon.

16. In Ireland It is illegal to conduct nuclear tests in the city.

17. In Vermont, women must obtain written permission from their husbands to wear false teeth.

18. Bear wrestling matches are prohibited. (Alabama)

19. In Indonesia, the penalty for masturbation is up to 32 months in prison (not decapitation).

20. It is illegal in California to lick toads.

21. In the UK you cannot ride in a taxi if you have the plague.
