Beauty Resolutions
It’s January and it is time to make those New Years resolutions.
I started my New Years resolution yesterday, which was not to drink fizzy drinks, by 7pm I was guzzling down a can of coke. So, yeah, I can’t really talk. But, there are some New Years Resolutions that you can stick with. These are those coveted Beauty New Years Resolutions.
Good skincare is the gateway to the new you. You will look better, feel better and glow like you’ve never glown before. Try and stick to these rules as much as you can. I try and try but some Saturday nights when I come in the door stinking of Vodka and Lime, taking off my make up with cleanser can be a struggle.
1) CLEANSE, TONE, MOISTURISE
For the last couple of years I have tried to stick to these three words religiously: Cleanse, Tone, Moisturise. I use Yonka products. They don’t only smell nice but they are amazing for your skin. Yonka’s Lait Nettoyant is the secret behind my mums good skin – she has been using them religiously since she was in her 20s and looks 20 years younger because of it.
2) DRINK WATER
Now, I can be very bad at this. I am partial to a can of Coke, or four, but drinking water is a must. Since I’ve gotten my Water Bobble water filter bottle, I try to make sure I have a whole one within the work day. Water is the cheapest and simplest way to make your skin breath. This, without a doubt, will prevent spots and make your skin that much smoother when applying make up.
3) ALWAYS TAKE OFF YOUR MAKE UP
As I admitted before, the odd time after a night out I have stumbled in the door and hoped into bed without a care in the world. But I promise you, no matter what, I will wake up with a spot on my face the next day. Then, while trying to deal with the unsightly blemish I will vow to myself “I will never do this again”. And never, and I mean NEVER, use make up wipes they completely drain your skin! And steps 1 and 2 will become void if you add make up wipes into the mix.
4) REMOVE CHIPPED NAIL POLISH
Now, up until recently, I was the absolute worst at this. I just didn’t care about my nails. If they were chipped it wouldn’t bother me and I look back now and think ‘Why God Why?’. Ever since I have started to get my nails done I feel like a new woman. But getting your nails done isn’t necessary (I have to my nails are horrendous!), if you have a nice neat polish you will look as good as new. And if nail polish isn’t your thing go au natural and take it all off. Just make sure your nails are clean!
5) CLEAN YOUR MAKE UP BRUSHES
I am a stickler for this, it just seems like so much effort. A few months ago I left it until about 2 months without washing my make up brushes and oh dear jesus the stuff that came out of them! To have that effervescent glow, I suggest you wash your make up brushes at least once a week. If you want to treat yourself, I would suggest you get M.A.C Brush Cleaner. It is easy to use and will remove bacteria and condition the brush fibers as well as making them squeaky clean. If you are on a budget, like myself, and paying for your weekly shop has torn you away from this luxury, soak your brushes in hot water and fairy liquid. Works like a charm!
6) DARE TO GO BOLD
I am an avid fan of colored lipstick. M.A.C’s lipsticks are my favorite. I feel they last much longer and their matte collections will stay on for days. If you haven’t yet, and you feel 2014 is your time to shine, get out the colored lipsticks and experiment with your make up. I love orange lipstick at the moment, especially, M.A.C’s Saignon Summer for the day and M.A.C’s Morange for the night time. In terms of red, M.A.C’s Ruby Woo and Russian Red are the ones to beat. For an orangey red, with the shine of a lipglass, M.A.C’s Lady Danger will be top of your list. I also love their Creamsheen Pink Pearl Pop to brighten up my face during the day. I have never been one to experiment too much with colored eyeshadows, besides the signature browns and blacks, but this year could be the year to do it.
