The 9 Best Music Festivals In The World That You Need To See For Yourself ASAP
Music festivals are the best craic. Falling into mud, getting drenched, making friends while you wait in the queue for the portaloo, hiding drink in places you never knew you could hide drinks and hearing your favourite bands play live for the first time are just some of the things you experience at a music festival. Everybody should go to one in their lifetime. It's a right of passage. Here's a list of 9 of the best music festivals you should go see and we're dying to see them all!
1). Glastonbury, Somerset
Yes, I know! It's the most obvious one BUT it's an essential tick off the bucket list for anyone who loves music. Situated in the heart of the beautiful English countryside with ancient monuments surrounding the camp - the festival has been a mecca for music lovers since the 70s. Whatever music you love you'll find at Glasto! The Pyramid Stage has hosted everyone from U2 to Johnny Cash and it's a must see. Tickets are sold out for this year but resale tickets will go on sale in the Spring. Get those Credit Union loans, quick!
2). Lollapalooza, Chicago
Arty types will love Lollapalooza. The festival not only hosts over 170 bands but they have one of the biggest art markets in the world by independent artists. The festival starts August 3rd till the 6th.
3). Outlook, Croatia
Usually at the end of the summer Outlook is the largest Soundsystem festival in Europe. The festival is set near Pula, Croatia on an abandoned fort beside a beach! If you love underground music (house, reggae, techno and dubstep to name a few) then you need to go to this festival. Who doesn't love to party on the beach?
4). Electric Picnic, Stradbally
Ah now listen! Home is where the heart is ;) EP is synonymous with college days and festivals. Stradbally is a staple in Irish life. Sit back and relax at home with a few cans and some live tunes without having to leave the country. The festival has amazing food, bands and art installations. Electric Picnic takes places this year from September 1st to the 3rd.
5). Coachella, California
Full to the brim with art installations that are annually commissioned Coachella is a favourite with music lovers. It is the largest and most successful music festival in the United States. Headliners this year include Lady Gaga, Kendrick Lamar and Radiohead.
6). Primavera Sound, Barcelona
One of the best festivals I've been to is situated in Barcelona. Located beside the sea you can go to a rave, see your favourite acts on the main stage or get VIP tickets and visit the exclusive bar areas. This year the festival will host Frank Ocean, Solange and Bon Iver.
7). Hogmanay, Edinburgh
Why not spend your NYE at a festival? Edinburgh's Hogmanay is 3 days of live music, events showcased by cultures around the world and spectacular firework displays. The streets of Edinburgh come alive with street parties and world renowned DJs. I think I know where I want to be for New Years!
8). Tomorrowland, Belgium
Usually at the end of July Tomorrowland is an electronic music festival in Boom, Belgium. It's set over two weekends with DJs from around the world coming to play. Themes in the past have included The Tree of Life or The Key to Happiness. Go just to see the spectacular stages!
9). Burning Man, Nevada
If you're looking for something off the beaten track Burning Man could be the thing for you. Think of it as extreme festivalling, you have to bring all your supplies - water, food, toiletries etc. The event showcases multiple musicians and art installations. The best thing about it is it's in the middle of the Nevada desert.
We're officially living for the summer! What music festivals have you guys been to?
