Juicing 101..
What is it?
“Juicing” is the process of extracting juice from raw fruit and vegetables using a juicer. A juice cleanse consists of a period of time where you only drink this freshly pressed juice to cleanse your body of all the crap you shovel into it every day- cigarettes, alcohol, sugar, caffeine, pills etc and at the same time obtain the maximum nutrients from the fresh fruit & veg. Juicing seems to be the latest celebrity diet/health fad and everyone seems to be jumping on the bandwagon.
Why Juice? - Physical and mental detox - Weight loss - Recharge your body with crazy amount of nutrients (Essential in these cold months) - Used as an alternative method to treat sickness and disease * Juicing is not just for girls trying to fit into a dress. It has amazing health benefits and can be practised by anyone looking to improve their health.
Juices by Ginger is a Dublin based Juicing business run by Amy Gallagher. Amy provides a 3 day detox programme where she delivers a pack to your door containing 12 Freshly pressed Juices in jars with instructions and straws. For 3 days you drink 4 juices a day with no solid food. The breakfast and dinner juices are green and are designed to keep you full containing ingredients such as kale, spinach and apple. The lunch juice is a tastier red juice with avocado and beetroot and there is one fruity “treat” juice per day for when you are hitting a slump at any point. With Amy making the whole concept sound easy I had no excuse but to jump on the bandwagon myself!

The editor of CollegeTimes, Greta, did this cleanse and remarked how generous the juices were and how there was also a smoothie included which was filling. The packaging was especially nice and all her 3 days worth of juices came beautifully presented in a wooden box. They're also organic which is a plus. A 3 day detox is €66 which you can order here!
What To Expect:
Day 1
I started the detox on a Monday which is a great day to start things in my opinion (unless you’ve had a heavy weekend). The juices were surprisingly very tasty so I felt positive about the days ahead. I had work and was busy all day so wasn’t thinking about food too much. At 4pm I started to get some headaches and had very little energy which is when I tucked in to the treat juice to give me a little sugar high. I had planned on going to the cinema on Monday night and by the time 8pm came I was absolutely wrecked and the prospect of sitting through a movie with no popcorn deeply upset me so I gave it a miss. I was cranky and snappy and felt a little bit crazy.
