'Liver Friendly' Vodka Could Be A Thing And We're Scared
Hangover free prosecco, 'liver friendly' vodka - they come in all shapes and sizes don't they?!
So what's this 'liver friendly' vodka all about? Harsha Chigurupati, an Indian researcher has created a compound that will apparently prevent our livers from being damaged by alcohol.
According to The Daily Mail, the compound called NTX - 'no-tox,' was used in a study which showed that liver damage was 93% lower for people who drank NTX-infused vodka compared to people who consumed normal vodka. The compound is said to get rid of toxins from the body.
Is this revolutionary or a bit dodge? The Alcohol and Tobacco and Trade Bureau in the US thinks the latter. The bureau rejected his petition on the basis that:
The proposed labeling and advertising statements create a misleading impression that consumption of alcohol beverages infused with NTX will protect consumers from certain serious health risks associated with both moderate and heavy levels of alcohol consumption.
While it sounds great to leave a session minus any damage liver damage, the bureau is of the mind set that the NTX booze may deflect from other health concerns like addiction and birth defects.
