Love Island Star Reveals He’s Been Blinded By A Champagne Cork

It is rare to see ‘reality star-cum-socialite’ featuring in surveys listing the most dangerous professions. Typically, we’d expect to see the list littered with careers such as ‘tree-surgeon’; ‘soldier’, ‘tiger anaesthetist’ etc. However, we may need to pour scorn on all previously compiled lists and reassess our understanding of professional jeopardy as former Love Island contestant, Theo Campbell, has revealed that he’s been blinded in one eye by a champagne cork.

Theo Campbell, a sprinter who rose to fame after appearing on the third season of Love Island in 2017 made the announcement in a post on Instagram. He said that the accident occurred after a champagne cork fired out from the bottle and, having hit him in the face, ‘split his eyeball in half’. Despite two surgeries to try and save his vision he was told that he would be left permanently blind in his right eye.

He wrote, “So yeah, basically, two eye surgeries later, after a really unfortunate accident, I’ve lost all vision in my right eye as it got split half, who would have thought a champagne cork would be the end of me... But I still have 1 eye left, looking at the bright side of things.”

He added, referencing his girlfriend – former Love Island contestant – Kaz Crossley, “Thanks for flying out to look after me as well babe, if anyone knows where sells cool eye patches let me know.”

It’s impressive to see how well he’s dealing with such a horrific accident. It is surely only a matter of time before we see the glorious monetisation of this upsetting occurrence and Theo Campbell branded designer eye-patches hitting the shelves.

Theo and Kaz began to date following Kaz’s split from Josh Denzel, who she’d met during Love Island 2018. Other celebrities and former Love Island contestants were quick to add their support in the comments on the post.
