Nostalgia Porn: Remembering 'Top 30 Hits' & The Songs That Defined It
To those of us who grew up in the 90s and early 00s, Top 30 Hits played a pretty central role in our lives. For many of the kids who grew up without MTV, who didn't have Sky and only had the three channels, Top 30 Hits felt like the only link to modern pop civilization.
Looking back on the show now I was overcome with that warm, fuzzy yet bittersweet feeling - nostalgia. From the Matrix-esque opening of the show, to the Wrangler sponsor to the iconic 'Like It, Love It' end card, Top 30 Hits was a simple idea that was well executed and had children all over the country up Sunday morning glued to the box.
But what sticks out most about the show? The songs, obviously, though are some that come to mind before others. There are some songs that really define the show. The big hits, the ones that were in the charts so long they'd be on the show for the bones of a year.
Here is a list of the most iconic songs that came to define RTÉ's Top 30 Hits.
Six - 'There’s A Whole Lot Of Loving Going On'
Remember Six? Ireland's first artificial pop group, created by scientists in a lab, under instructions to create the most vanilla music of all time.
Eiffel 65 - 'Blue'
This video is burned on to my retina.
Wheatus - 'Teenage Dirtbag'
Her name is Noelle...
Mark McCabe - 'Maniac 2000'

Mark McCabe, still going strong. Top 30 Hits was his heyday, though.
Touch and Go - 'Would You Go To Bed With Me'
Dat trumpet solo doe...
B*Witched - 'C'est La Vie'
I'll show you mine if you show me yours. Terribly great.
The Tamperer Feat. Maya - 'Feel It'
What's she gonna look like with a chimney on her? A chimney is a black eye BTW.
Whigfield - 'Saturday Night'
Dee-dee da na-naa?
Robbie Williams - 'Rock DJ'
I think we were all scarred in one way or another by the ex-Take That man's video.
Moby - 'Natural Blues'
Moby's vids were always so grim, weren't they?
