Why You Shouldn't Give Into Your Wanderlust Cravings Just Yet
If you're itching to fly off to Asia or go backpacking right this minute, hang on. Show patience, dear grasshopper. You have a good 60 years of your life to live yet, why are you rushing into things right now? Hang tight, your wanderlust can wait because it'll feel even better to go when you're finished college and before you truly have to face the big bad working world.
You're Broke
Yeah, because your breakfast consists of a bar and your dinner is pot noodles and that just screams "I have loads of money". There would be nothing worse when you're 4,000km away from home and you're trying to call your Mam from a pay phone to wire you money because all you have is the bag on your back and $1.52 in your pocket. Not the best situation to be in. The best way to avoid that is to work, obviously. Work your fucking ass off throughout college; 3 or 4 years of hard work for a full year of travel, sounds nice doesn't it?
You Don't Have A Travel Buddy
If you were born of the female sex, congratulations! Because the world we live in is so fucked up - you can't go anywhere without the constant fear of being chopped into teeny tiny little pieces and thrown into a river. If you don't have a someone to go with you, I'd wait until you do. Better safe than sold as burger meat in the depths of Asia somewhere.
It'll Be Better When You're Finished College
Imagine finishing your first or second year of college and going away for just 3 months, having to squeeze in all the countries and places you want to visit in the summer, and then having to go back to the hell-hole that is college, ew. So why not wait until you're finished college and go away for a year? You can take your time, you don't have to rush around, and then when you're back, you'll be one of those "well travelled" people and you can rub it in people's faces. Do all the hard work and get your degree in English Literature and Sleeping In Lectures, it'll still be there when you come back.
You Have Loads Of Time
You're what? 18, 19, 20? And you want to go away now? Just this minute? Why? Don't wish your fucking life away. "Cool your jet", as your Mom would never say. Everything doesn't need to be experienced in the first 10 years of becoming an adult.
You Should Make Money Now
You're gonna need a lot of money for this ultra-fantastic road trip extravaganza. So get yourself a shitty part-time job wiping down tables in McDonalds. The price of having an amazing travel experience is high.
You Need To Plan Like Monica
Travelling takes a shit load of planning. So channel your inner Monica Geller or grab your friend that's as organised as a German train station. There're lots of different packages you can get or head to a travel agents (yes they still exist) and they'll plan everything for you. It won't always work out perfectly, but you can certainly try if you take your time and go over every detail.
