Inevitable Ugly Faces We Just Can't Avoid

In our generation, looks are important. We strive to look beautiful and perfect. However, we don't wake up flawless. Therefore, when we look our best, we take pride in our efforts. We bat our eyelashes, beam a bright smile and bite our lips seductively to catch the attention of others. We know how to work our facial features to our advantage But no matter how beautiful you look and how well you present yourself, there are just some ugly faces we can't avoid making...

1) When we cry

When we're crying, we make the ugliest face. It's not like in the movies where a single lovely tear slides down our face. It's messy. Our facial features scrunch up in distress, our eyes become bloodshot with tears, our foreheads crinkle with worry lines and we're snotty. Even the description details how intense and unsightly the view is. We can't help it though, when we're seriously upset the last thing we care about is how ridiculous we look. However, after we've cried our hearts out and blown our nose in tissues, only then do we care about how pathetic we look. We sniff, wipe away the tears and carry on. Though our lips may quiver we prevent any one from witnessing that face again.

2) When we sneeze

Let's face it, no one looks glamorous when sneezing. Unfortunately, sneezing is a sudden involuntary act, so there's no way of prepping yourself to look good. The scrunching of the eyes, the irritation of the nose and the expulsion of air from the mouth and nose is not a pretty sight. However, in order to save yourself from embarrassment there are ways to save your dignity. Unlike Honey Boo Boo's mama, utilizing a tissue can make a big difference. It saves you from looking atrocious. If you're lacking a tissue and still want to save your pride and image, cover your mouth and nose with your hands. I know it's not hygienic, but its better then looking like Mama Boo Boo.

3) When we eat and drink

Not everyone will make a face when eating and drinking. Some people are pros at concealing their disgust at a meal they don't like, while others instantly display their disgust with a nasty scowl. Similar with drinking, Some people are experts at handling their drink, others? Not soo much. Most college students can't afford the expensive but nicer tasting drinks, so they opt for the good ol' cheap naggin of vodka. Some students are severely poor that they will opt for the Tesco/lidl/aldi version of vodka. Whatever type of vodka you drink, it never tastes great. If anything, it burns your throat. A drink so strong is bound to bring about the ugly flinch face and shudder. Unfortunately, there's no way to prevent this face from happening. Unless you have more mixer than vodka , you my friend will pull an Emma Stone on it.

3) When we yawn

Not the ugliest face you could make, but still it looks like you're trying to swallow the entire room. Unfortunately, like sneezing, yawning is an involuntary action. When we're bored or tired, we can't help it. It's not the most amazing sight either, mouth wide open for all to see as we inhale deeply. What's worse about this face is that it's God Damn contagious. But there's perks to that too, because if one of your friends looks hilarious when they yawn, then the embarrassment can be shared as you will probably end up looking silly too.

5) When we sing

Passion is a strong and barely controllable emotion, so when you're belting out the words to your favourite song you make that cringy face where you close your eyes tightly and sing out of tune. That face, however, isn't as bad as the face you make when you're hitting a high note. If you're a naturally good singer this may not apply to you, but for those of you who can't sing to save your life, you know what I mean. Hitting that high note requires a huge outburst of emotion, which can only lead to the outburst of an ugly face. If you're drunk in the club, in the shower or at karaoke night then just go for it! We all make ugly faces when we sing, but its the passion behind the words that counts.

6) When we're furious and we shout

Anger is a strong feeling of annoyance, displeasure and hostility. Any coherent we thought we have goes out the window when we're boiling with rage. Our hearts beat fast, adrenaline runs through our veins and all we're seeing is red. We only have thing in mind: to scream and shout at the person who provoked us.  A shouting match begins and in order to get your point across loud and clear you raise your voice. In doing so, you pull that ugly face were you're gritting your teeth, your giving your victim piercing looks and your nose is scrunched up in anger. To put it simply, anger isn't pretty, and there's no solution to that ugly face except calming the hell down.

7) When we're jealous

Jealously is not as intense as anger. Anger is more blazing and fiery, where as jealously is sly and subtle (at times anyway!). Jealously is feeling/showing envious resentment of someone for their achievements, possessions or perceived advantages. Unlike anger, it's an emotion we can chose to hide or show. Jealously can differ from person to person, some people may be timid and merely pout, while others will scowl and roll their eyes. If you're more on the dramatic side, then that scowl and eye roll to heaven won't be pretty, so don't be expecting compliments any time soon!

8) When we're laughing

Laughing wouldn't be considered an ugly face. If anything, it's a pleasant sight seeing someone chuckle and giggle. However, ugly laughing faces are even more amusing! For an ugly face, hysterically laughing isn't unsightly at all. Yes, you yourself will think 'God, I look possessed or something when I laugh', but to others around you it will be hysterical. Laughing is such a spontaneous reaction as you can't help the sounds and movements of the body and the face. But have you ever been in a humorous situation where your friend is crying so hard from laughter that they nearly could pee their pants, and your laughing so hard at their face that your holding your stomach, gasping for air between laughs? Then your friends starts laughing at your ugly face as you can barely breath? Yea, it doesn't matter how ugly your face is when your laughing. The laughs are worth it.
