Here's How To Make The Perfect French Toast And Die Happy
Whether you're hungover, sick, need a treat after work or after completing 25 minutes of study there's no better celebration than French toast. The butter drooling over the sides of the crispy white bread, the maple syrup resting gently in the centre of the dough and the melt in your mouth texture will leave you drooling. Well, all I want now is a stack of French toast, so while I go get my paws on some, here's how to make the perfect French toast all for yourself:
What you'll need:
- 4 eggs
- White bread/ brioche
- Milk/almond milk
- Nutmeg
- Vanilla extract
- Maple syrup/ honey
- Sugar
- A pinch of salt
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
-Whisk together 4 eggs, 1 1/2 cups of milk or almond milk, 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1 teaspoon sugar and a pinch of salt in a bowl.
-Melt 1/2 tablespoon butter in a nonstick pan over a medium heat.
-Working in batches, dip 6 thick slices of white bread or brioche (the brioche is out of this world as French toast) in the egg mixture and cook in the pan until golden, 2 to 3 minutes per side, adding more butter as needed.
-Transfer the slices to a baking sheet, one at a time, and bake 8 to 10 minutes until they are fully puffed. As the French toast bakes melt 4 tablespoons butter in the pan until browned for about 3 - 5 minutes.
-Drizzle the French toast with the browned butter and maple syrup and bask in the glory of French toast. If you want to make the dish spectacular add some bacon on the side, cream and strawberries, marshmallows, peaches and cream, bananas or scrambled eggs.
Lunch time can't come any sooner...
