BREAKING: Every Irish School And Every College To Close Tomorrow
Met Éireann have just announced that the status red weather warning, which had previously applied to only eight counties, has been extended across the entire country.
They had previously advised schools in areas affected by the red warning to close and it is understood that this now applies nationally as the weather warning has been extended.
Many third level institutions have announced that they will be closed tomorrow, these include:
- Cork IT
- Limerick IT
- Waterford IT
- GMIT
- UCC
- UL
- MIC
- NUIG
It's advised that you check your college's Twitter feed to receive any updates regarding closures.
It's understood that Ophelia will remain designated as a hurricane by the time it hits Ireland, and will only decrease in severity to a 'post-tropical storm' as it passes over the country. This means that there are potential gusts of over 180km/h expected in parts of the country. It will apparently hit Ireland while at 'category two' hurricane strength, which is pretty dang strong and promises to be one of the most potentially destructive weather events in recent Irish history.
