A Catholic Church Has Introduced Contactless Card Payments For Collections
Contactless payments have become all the rage in the 21st century so it was only a matter of time before an institution set on harvesting revenue by whatever means possible took the plunge into the 21st century too - even if their views have yet to make the transition.
The St. Mary's Cathedral in Sydney has been slammed by the public for using the 'tap and go' service for those who don't have change for collection plates.
Parishioners at St. Mary's Cathedral in Sydney, which was founded in 1821, can now use their debit cards to make donations in seconds as payment terminals were introduced over the weekend.
It's not the first time Christianity has introduced the banking system. Churches of England introduced the system earlier this year to over 16,000 churches, cathedrals and religious sites. The amount is set at £5 rather than users being allowed to choose the amount they would wish to donate.
St Nicolas Cathedral (Church of England) in Newcastle offers contactless payment for donations. Shame they dictate the amount £5! any amount should be gratefully received. @ChronicleLive @c_of_e pic.twitter.com/l3Dz3bdxXP
