DCU Have An Interesting New Initiative To Help Students Find Jobs
A new initiative taken by DCU could mean graduates have a better chance of getting employed. Students are to receive new online learning portfolios aimed to provide better job opportunities after college.
This "living portfolio" is aimed showcase students' academic, professional and personal achievements. The reason behind the move is to equip graduates with 21st-century skills needed in the workplace.
According to The Irish Times, the online platform will allow students to create an online CV, upload assignments, create personal blogs, showcase any internships they've done as well as upload certificates and achievements. The whole point of the portfolio is to show future employers just how much work a student has put in.
It looks like the programme is already popular as 5000 students have already signed up to the pilot programme. The programme aims to show employers how adaptable modern students can be. DCU professor Brian MacCraith spoke about the importance of the portfolio,
"The reflect portfolio challenges traditional approaches to teaching, learning and assessment, capturing all facets of student learning and providing our students with an opportunity reflect on their personal and professional as well as learning development".
The portfolio will be a way for graduates to stand out from the crowd and get hired after university.
