"One Of Them Had A Knife" - DCU SU President Speaks Out After Violent Attack
A DCU student was left beaten and bruised after being attacked by a group of five men, while walking he was walking home from college.
Niall Behan, who is president of the DCU SU Union, was approached by the men who were armed with a bat and a knife and intent on stealing his phone. He spoke to Independent.ie about the incident which happened in October.
I was approached by a group of five young lads, they asked me for my phone, one of them had a knife in his hand.
When I refused they began to throw punches at me until I was on the ground, another one was holding the end of a bat and gave me a dig in the face.
It was an extremely scary experience. I was in a lot of pain and it's not something I'd like to relive.
Niall's hoping to use his position as DCU SU president to raise awareness and support students.
The college recently implemented a Student Safety app way so students have a round-the-clock connection to the campus security team.
