Here's Every County In Ireland's Broadband Speed Ranked

Broadband speeds in rural areas in Ireland can be up to 36 times slower than in Dublin, a survey by price comparison website Switcher has shown. This will come as no surprise to denizens of the styx who are accustomed to spending an entire afternoon waiting for a single Cian Twomey video to load before they can not laugh at it.

The Irish Times reports that only 25% of Irish households are getting the 35Mbps minimum target set out by the Irish Government’s National Broadband Plan.

A nation-wide survey found that Dublin had the fastest internet speeds followed by Waterford, Kildare, Meath, and then Westmeath. On the lower end of the broadband speed spectrum is Mayo, Monaghan, Roscommon, Leitrim, and Longford at the bottom with a measly 2mbs per second, 36 times slower than Dublin's 72Mbps.

The absolute highest speed in the country was recorded in Carlow a staggeringly fast 989.15Mbp.

This means that someone in Dublin could download a two hour film in 6 minutes, but the same film would take someone from Longford two-and-a-half-hours to download. Almost 33% of 'broadband' connections in Ireland are under 5Mbps, which in the US wouldn't qualify as broadband.
