Irish University Gets Nearly 1,000 Students To Register To Vote In Single Day
With the 25th of May little over three weeks away, organisations throughout the country are desperately trying to get as many people as possible to register themselves to vote, before the registration deadline on 8th of May.
Yesterday, TCDSU launched one such drive, opening garda-run stalls in both the Arts Block and Science buildings, which brought massive queues of students to both buildings, eager to sign up to secure their right to have a say in the referendum.
Despite only being open for a total of 3 hours, the two stalls managed to process 981 students looking to be added to the electoral register, according to The University Times.
While it is a somewhat worrying indicator of how many students there may still be out there who have yet to sign up, the massive queues for the stalls were a clear sign that, for the majority of students, this is not an issue to be apathetic about.
The Students' Union recently launched a campaign, called #RingTheLads, to try get students to ring their male friends who they think may not feel as if the referendum directly concerns them.
