The County With The Lowest Tourism Funding Comes As No Surprise
People of Laois, prepare to be miffed. According to recent figures on Fáilte Ireland’s most recent completed Tourism Capital Investment Programme, Laois has emerged as the least-funded county for tourism capital grants, recieving a paltry €93,750 from a €125 million fund between 2007 and 2014. Then again, what's there to do in Laois? Could we sever all funding?
Still, Laois can comfort themselves with the fact that they hold the biggest musical festival in Ireland, Electric Picnic. I suppose that's as good a reason as any for the county to exist.
After County Laois the next lowest funding was for Carlow who recieved €415,745 over the same time period. That's over four times what The O'Moore County was granted.
A vast portion of the fund was doled out to Dublin, who received almost €18 million, Cork who received €14.7 million and Limerick who were awarded €12.6 million.
Large projects which got substantial aid from the fund include the €5.2 million for Killarney House, in Co Kerry as well as the €5.575 million, which was awarded to support Kilkenny’s Medieval Mile which showcases the city’s history.
Seeing as Laois got the raw end of the stick with their funding here's a quick roundup of the top sights in Queen's County:
1. Dunamase Castle
2. Stradbally Hall
3. Heywood Gardens
4. Emo Hall
