Met Éireann Issue Status Orange Weekend Weather Warning For 7 Counties

The weather never stops, does it? This morning Met Éireann issued an update about the possible Storm Brian, saying the low pressure system was undergoing an 'explosive cyclogenesis', and now they have given two Status Orange warnings for this weekend.

The first is a wind warning for Wexford, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Waterford and will run from 12:01am Saturday morning until 12pm. They're forcasting:

West to Southwest winds veering Northwest will reach mean speeds of 65-80 km/h with gusts 110-130 km/h in coastal parts of Munster and coastal parts of Wexford with the risk of coastal flooding, as storm Brian tracks Eastwards across central and Southern parts of Ireland.

Their second orange warning is for Galway and Mayo, between 6am on Saturday and 6pm, with Storm Brian also bringing with it the threat of coastal flooding in Connacht. The rest of Ireland is now under a Status Yellow warning between 10pm Friday night and 10pm Saturday.

While Storm Brian doesn't appear to be as strong as Ophelia it may hinder the ESB's efforts to restore power to areas affected by Monday's ex-hurricane.
