The World's First Water Park For People With Disabilities Has Opened And It's Wonderful
I think it's a well-known fact that waterparks are notorious for being extremely inaccessible for people with disabilities. Well, that's all about to change thanks to Morgan’s Inspiration Island in San Antonio, Texas.
The water park will be the first of its kind in the entire world and has been designed specifically for people with disabilities. The water park allows entry to anyone with a special need for "free of charge".
Gordan Hartman, the CEO of The Gordon Hartman Family Foundation, explained how they worked with water park consultants, "local doctors, parents, special needs therapists and caregivers," to make sure the park would be suitable for everyone.
The venue provides free waterproof wheelchairs as well traceable bracelets that allow parents to locate their children. The entire water park is wheelchair accessible and "because the parks are free of barriers, special-needs guests will be inspired to do things previously thought to be beyond their capabilities".
The park officially opened on June 15th and has already been a great success. "The guiding principle for all these endeavours is inclusion", Gordan said. "Those without disabilities and those with, including individuals with hearing and visual impairments and even people on ventilators, can play alongside one another and gain a greater understanding of each other".
