It Turns Out Ireland's Favourite Food Isn't Good For Us
It's a matter of fact that Irish people love their bread. From soda to sliced, we've had something of a love affair with it for many years.
However, some people may not be happy to learn that the Department of Health have released an updated food pyramid and there have a been some major changes, bread included.
The new food pyramid has put fruit, vegetables and salad on the bottom layer, with an emphasis on eating 5-7 portions each day. Carbohydrates has moved up a place with only 3-5 portions needed each day, while white bread has been completely taken off the pyramid.
But perhaps the most notable change is that instead of being allowed one serving of sugar, sweets and crisps each day, they have been pushed to one serving each week. According to the journal.ie, The Department of Health have made these changes as Ireland has the highest average body mass in the EU, as well as half of us being overweight.
This is the Governments attempt to try and tackle the epidemic of childhood obesity and educate young people about leading a healthy, balanced diet.
Hopefully, this will have an effect on our eating habits for the better.
