Yas Kween: Nike's Latest Female Product Line Will Fly Off The Shelves
Nike is a brand we all know and many of us love. It's successful, it represents just getting out there and doing it, but up until now it hasn't been accessible to a big part of the population. We're talking about Muslim women. Yep: the Nike hijab is here and it's awesome.
With Islam being the second biggest religion in the world, it makes a lot of sense why Nike, one of the biggest sports brands in the world, would make their products more inclusive... uh, there's a hell of a lot of Muslim women out there who love their stuff but found something was missing. That's where the high-performance hijab comes in.
The Nike Pro Hijab will be available in stores in spring 2018, and is the result of “an ongoing cultural shift that has seen more women than ever embracing sport,” Nike said in a statement. “This movement first permeated international consciousness in 2012, when a hijabi runner took the global stage in London.”
Nike wanted to create a lightweight hijab that was “inconspicuous, almost like a second skin,” the company said. Its design is now being used by select Muslim women in the Persian Gulf region’s competitive sports scene.
And they're not the only brand being more inclusive: Uniqlo has just launched its fourth collection of modest outfits and tunics; Debenhams is the first major UK department store to sell hijabs, and Dolce & Gabbana have a line of hijabs and full-length abayas.
On International Women's Day, this is pretty cool news. Let's #BeBoldForChange today and every day, ladies.
