Breaking: Ryanair Pilots To Go On Strike Days Before Christmas
The news will come as a blow for travellers trying to get home for Christmas.
Today Ryanair announced their one-day strike after the union, Irish Airline Pilots' Association, backed industrial action in a secret ballot over the weekend.
The strike will begin on Wednesday, December 20th, on one of the busiest days of the year for travelling and is expected to last 24 hours.
The one-day strike notice was given to Ryanair management and cited that Irish-based pilots will withdraw their services. The majority of the association's members voted in favour of the action which is expected to cost the airline significant amounts.
The Ryanair pilots are hoping their actions will create a new bargaining system that will replace the employee representative councils that reach agreements for staff across Ryanair's bases in Europe.
