Serena Williams Had The Best Response Ever To Racist Remarks About Her Pregnancy
Serena is well-known as one of the greatest tennis players of all time. She's currently expecting her first child with Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, and she's clearly delighted from all the lovely snaps she's been putting up. However, someone decided to rain on Serena's parade by saying nasty comments about her pregnancy behind her back.
Step up please former U.S. Open and French Open singles champion, Ilie Nastase. According to ESPN, Nastase was overheard saying, "Let's see what colour it has. Chocolate with milk?" This disgusting comment is drawing attention to the fact Serena's fiancé is white. So what did Serena do about over hearing these comments? She posted an epic response on her Instagram;
It reads, 'It disappoints me to know that we live in a society where people like Ilie Nastase can make such racist comments towards myself and unborn child, and sexist comments against my peers.' She then goes on to quote a beautiful Maya Angelou poem, "Does my sassiness upset you? Why are you beset with gloom?" You may shoot me with your words...you may kill me with your hatefulness, But still, like air, I’ll rise."
As a result of his comment, Nastase is currently under investigation from The International Tennis Federation (ITF) , and could face disciplinary action.
Slay Serena.
