Intelligent People Drink More Often, According To New Research

It's difficult to associate alcohol with your intelligence especially when it's responsible for so many injuries on a night out but new research states the people with brains are the ones who drink the most.

A study carried out by the London School of Economics investigated the relationship between education and alcohol. The study concerned to people from the British Cohort Study, a landmark study which has tracked the lives of people born within a specific week in 1970. The study analysed data collected from the study in 2004, when the subjects were all 34 years old, which assessed, among other things, their alcohol intake and rates of alcohol abuse and correlated them to metrics such as education and socioeconomic background.

According to the research findings, women who hold a degree are twice as likely to drink alcohol daily. 71% of women are likely to drink most days compared to 49% of men. Individuals who achieved high test scores during their childhood are more likely to drink.

The report signified that college women are prone to problematic patterns of drinking:

The more educated women are, the more likely they are to drink alcohol on most days and to report having problems due to their drinking patterns. The better-educated appear to be the ones who engage the most in problematic patterns of alcohol consumption.

Additionally, the United Kingdoms National Survey on Drug and Health found that college graduates are 69% more likely to drink than those who did not graduate from secondary school.
