College Roundup: Trinity College Exams Change, And More

It's the final day of the college week and we've got a bit of a different college roundup for you. There's been two big stories come out of Irish colleges this week: Trinity College exam changes and UCD's huge fundraiser effort. Here's what you need to know, plus a few other things to put in your diary:

Trinity College

It's been 400 years of tradition but finally, Trinity College is changing their end of year exams to Christmas from next year. According to the Irish Times, the changes were approved this week by most of the university's 200 fellows/senior academics, as well as 90% of students, and will be more in line with other universities and colleges.

Students hanging out for an earlier start to the academic year will have to wait until the 2018/2019 college year.

UCD

UCD's recent RAG Week was a huge success - the college raised a €18,000 for Pieta House, a suicide prevention charity, reports the University Observer.

It looks like fundraising events like tag archery, puppy cuddling, a FIFA tournament, a mixology class, a donut fair, Foil, Arms and Hog and a RAG Ball all paid off very nicely.

Campaigns and Communications officer Luke Fitzpatrick said “I feel that RAG Week went down an absolute storm. I can’t reiterate enough the amount of work our staff did to help us in this event. David Burns our Research and Communications Coordinator for help with fundraising, Paul Kilgallon organising and planning all the events and Ger Byrne for designing everything.”
