University Of Limerick To Bring In Full Smoking Ban Across All Campus's

After spending 9 months of putting designated smoking bans on trial across campus, University of Limerick is about to issue a complete ban on smoking on the entire University campus.

Since the start of the year, the smoking ban has been put in place to ease the campus into a full smoking ban. From Friday the smoking ban will begin, and it will include smoking cigarettes as well as e-cigarette’s, and vapes. It is supposed to not only help the health of smokers themselves but eradicate second-hand smoke.

Signs will be placed all over the campus, and ash trays will be removed from all bins. All staff and students are required to enforce this new ban by reminding other staff, students or visitors not to smoke around the campus.

Any staff or students that may struggle with a nicotine addiction, are welcome to avail of help to quit from the Student Health Centre and HSE cessation programmes.

UL President, Dr. Desmond Fitzgerald, is in full support of the new smoking ban, tweeting “as a former smoker, I know how addictive nicotine is and how tough it is to stop smoking.”
