Leaving Cert Results Up By 4.4% Compared To Normal Years
Today is the day. Students across Ireland are finally receiving their Leaving Cert results, even though they didn't actually take the Leaving Cert this year. This is one of the biggest days in the lives of so many young people. It's been complicated exponentially by the coronavirus and predicted marks. Many of us have spent the last month full of anxiety that Ireland may experience a similar grades fiasco to that of the UK.
Students have been able to access the grades portal from 9am. According to the Department of Education, leaving cert results are up on average 4.4% on normal years. The biggest jump took place in Irish where the highest grade in Level A (H1) jumped from to 9.1% to 6.1%.
Norma Foley, the minister for education, acknowledged the challenging circumstances that students faced in a statement.

This is a very different day from what we had anticipated for you, and from what you had planned and dreamed for yourselves
“I do appreciate what an especially difficult time you have had over the past six months, and I want to commend you for the patience, courage and resilience you have shown in that time.
