Stylista Of The Week: Fiona Griffin
Fiona Griffin has just completed a Fashion Journalism course with London College of Fashion and is now studying an online blogging mentor programme. Fiona has her own fashion blog WardrobeResurrection.com.
Q1: How would you describe your personal style?
I’m a fashion forward girly girl with a huge love of statement pieces, colour and a weakness for detailing. For a night out I like a nice dress in a vibrant hue with a glam pair of heels. For day I’m all about my jeans and knitwear or a skirt with tights. I will wear pretty much anything as long as I’m comfortable but sometimes with my choice in high heels I fall the fashion victim. My personal style depends on my mood and the occasion, I’m either feeling it or I skip on to the next outfit.
Q2. Which stores are your favourite?
I’m all about the highstreet, what store I’m currently craving depends on their season collection. At the moment I’m loving Miss Selfridge for dressy, Bershka for casual, H&M for my basics, and River Island for bags and winter boots as they last for years. I love a trip to Penney’s to see what I’m missing and I love an usual thrift shop find. My favourite online store is ASOS.
Q3. What is your take on today's fashion industry?
Today fashion is all about micro-trends driven by highstreet brands. Jump back 10 years we were stuck with repetitive trends like nautical, safari, military and winter black all driven by catwalk collections. Now we see micro-trends popping up all the time and the industry is definitely giving us a run for our money. Celebrity look-a-like style is another big one to watch, everyone wants to piece of that celebrity pie.
Q4. Any tips for students wanting to look good on a budget?
To make the most of your wardrobe it's simple, buy separates! Tops and t-shirts will give you more mileage and way more versatility. They work with almost all skirts, shorts and jeans so don’t limit yourself by just spending your money on dresses. Think outside the box, can you wear that dress as a top? Can you wear a sweater over that dress to wear it as a skirt? If you’re on a budget, then don’t buy hugely into trends, shop around and buy statement on trend jewellery to update your look instead. This will stop your whole wardrobe becoming dated when next season comes knocking. Be creative, add brooches, swap belts and do some DIY. Give it your own personal stamp.
Q5. Who is your style crush and why?
I crush any stylish women that crosses my path, I find inspiration in anything from window displays, people watching in a café window to Pinterest. So if you catch me looking you up and down don’t worry, it’s usually out of admiration. My style icon is not represented by just one woman but I have been known to copy one or two day outfits from Victoria Beckham.
Q6. What is your fashion must-have?
Easy, skinny jeans! Every girl’s must have wardrobe staple. Dress them down with a t-shirt and pumps or dress up with a chunky knit and knee high boots. God’s gift to women, I live in mine.
