Christmas Fling Or Actual Thing? How To Tell If Your College Fling Is Going Somewhere...
Christmas is nearly here and with it comes couples kissing one another sickeningly under mistletoe and snowflakes and shit. If you've spent the past little while whiling it away with someone kind of special or kind of available (I'm not judging either way), then you'll know that the festive season and all of its romantic moments can bring with it some awkward moments if you're not quite sure of what your relationship status actually is. Here's how to tell if your Christmas fling is going nowhere;
1) They Don't Buy You A Christmas Present
True love isn't about spending extortionate amounts of money on someone else, let's just get that much straight from the get go. If, however, they couldn't be bothered to spend a tenner on dinner for you, then you can pretty much assume that they couldn't give two shiny shits about you. Maybe if you've both agreed to not buy presents then it's just about acceptable. If, however, you've been together for months, things have been going well and you've bought them something thoughtful and or decent and received nothing in return, then it's just not on.
2) They Make No Plans To Meet You Over The Break
Well, if ever you needed a sign that they're just not that into you, then here it is, loud and neon bright. Honestly, why are you even on this article? Why aren't you reading something about being single and pulling babes? Don't waste any more time with this arsehole. Cut them off and move on.
3) They Don't Invite You To Meet Their Parents
Ok, so maybe you should give them the benefit of the doubt here. Maybe their parents are Nazi-esqe, maybe they like you too much to subject you to intense questioning, maybe you're not a very polite person or maybe, it's too soon. Or maybe and more realistically, they see no future in this 'arrangement' and don't want to make it anything more than it is. Just a thought.
4) They Tell You All About The Nights They Have Planned Out, But Don't Invite You To Any Of Them
Not just a sign that they don't want a relationship with you, it's also a sign that they have no manners and are just general dickheads in life and everything else. What was the point of them even mentioning their fabulous social calendar, you might ask? To make you incredibly jealous and or cranky perhaps? Plain rude.
5) They Don't Appear To Be Sad At The Prospect Of Not Seeing You For Weeks
Kind of a big warning sign, if ever I saw one. Hell, most people get sad at not seeing their college friends for three or four weeks and as we know, you're more than a friend, meaning, realistically, that they should be twice as sad at your departure. Perhaps they're just not too fond of showing their emotions and that's more than ok, but really? They probably just don't care about you.
6) They Don't Invite You To Spend New Years With Them
New Years Eve is a night for kissing that someone special at midnight surrounded by Champagne and sparklers. Yes, in college that might not be a priority, as many people will have to work, but if that isn't a factor and they'd rather spend New Years getting shitfaced in some crummy house with their mates, then leave them to it. And then leave them.
7) And Their New Years Resolution Is To Be Single
In that case, yours should be to stop hooking up with wankers with great taste. Don't waste tears over them, down that Mulled wine, get out there and meet someone worthy of your time and attention. Have fun and forget them, they just aren't worth it.
