As a newcomer to Dublin from sunny Australia, I was shocked to find out about the Irish tradition of 12 Pubs of Christmas. I felt deprived, excited and curious all at once. Last weekend, I participated in my first 12 Pubs and I have to say, it was pretty fun. I have some thoughts about it...
1. Why do pubs hate you doing 12 Pubs? It ruins everything (read: we almost weren't allowed into Badbobs because of our outfits)
2. Am I supposed to drink at every pub? Because I did...
3. A flask is the only way I can deal with the shite drink prices in Temple Bar. Seriously, €7 for a pint ($10AUD)? I could feed my family for that.
4. Why didn't I know about pasties sooner? They're like meat pies, but better?

5. A lot of pubs in Temple Bar have no craic (is that how I'm supposed to use that?). Bloody snore fest. I wish I'd gone to South William Street... at least that's what people told me.
6. Wearing a Christmas jumper with lights on it will not get an Irish bartender's attention.
7. I still regret having to hug that sweaty guy at Turk's Head for the 8th Pub rule...
8. I wish we had 12 Pubs at home in 'straya, everyone would do it, EVERYONE.
9. Oh, a Santa suit? I don't think I've ever seen one of those before.
10. How can girls wear such short skirts in this weather? I applaud your dedication to the cause. Especially over here in my 7 layers and thermals.
11. Australians cannot hold their booze as well as the Irish... almost every drunk person I saw was Aussie, and brought shame to my people.
12. The Temple Bar is not like a temple at all, and I refuse to worship it.
