14 Wonderfully Ridiculous Facts You Never Knew About S Club 7

S Club 7 were THE mixed music group of the 90s. They were young, attractive, British (we can let that slide) and GREAT dancers. The full package, really. But what do we really know about S Club? Like, what is an S Club? And how can we be in it? Here are all the S Club 7 facts you didn't even know. And you say you were a real fan? Pffft.

1. S Club 7 stands for 'Simon Club 7'

Spice Girls' manager Simon Fuller apparently came up with the idea for S Club 7 the day after he was fired in 1997. Here I was thinking it meant S for Seven.

2. The final group was chosen from 10,000 hopefuls

3. Jon never watched himself perform

Until Miami 7 aired. The whole idea of seeing himself on the screen made his skin crawl.

4. Rachel had no performing background

But she did go to fashion school for two years, which is where she met people from 19 Entertainment (Simon Fuller's company) who suggested she audition for S Club 7. And the rest, the say, is history.

The band’s record label decided not to release the video for Reach until after S Club’s next single Natural, as they wanted people to see S Club 7’s more mature side first.

6. The S Club Juniors

Do you remember this competition? The 8 members of S Club Juniors were chosen by the band in 2001 and included Rochelle Humes and Frankie Bridge from The Saturdays.

Over 90 million people watched in over 100 different countries, and you were one of them.

In just 5 years from 1998 - 2003, S Club 7 had four number one singles, released four albums, 11 singles and sold over 10 million albums. What have you done?

9. The band didn't tour until 2001

It took 3 years before S Club 7 did a tour. The S Club Party 2001 tour began on 19 May 2001, where they performed to a crowd of over 13,000 fans each night.

10. Paul and Hannah got back together

The couple that split up our glorious S Club, Paul and Hannah, split up in 2006 but rekindled the romance in 2015. Sadly, it wasn't to be and the couple split again in 2016. Boo.

11. Speaking of Paul...

In 2002, Paul told The Sun it was time to move on from the band and go back to his rock roots, aka a nu metal band he formed at school. Heard of it? Either have I.

12. Jo had a back problem during the band's movie S Club Seeing Double (2003)

It meant she couldn't run, appear in the shower scenes or rehearse properly. Damn.

13. Kylie Minogue's biggest hit 'Can't Get You Outta My Head' was nearly sung by S Club 7

It went on to sell 1.7 million copies in the UK and became her biggest selling song. Songwriters Cathy Dennis and Rob Davis wrote it for the group, but after sending it to Simon Fuller, it was decided that it wasn't quite the right match for S Club 7. The track was then offered to Sophie Ellis Bextor, who turned it down, before Kylie got it.

14. The boys got caught with pot

In 2001, Paul,  Jon and Bradley were caught with cannabis in London's Covent Garden but were released without charge. Ah sure, what's a bit of Mary J on some super famous pop stars?
