This is music to our ears. Father Dougal, or more accurately Ardal O'Hanlon the actor that plays Father Dougal McGuire is joining the cast of Derry Girls for season two. It is like a mini mash-up of our two all-time favourite Channel 4 shows, as if we weren't excited enough about the return of season two.
According to a press release from Channel 4, Ardal O" Hanlon will play Eamonn an "awkward, middle-aged mummy’s boy of the Quinn/McCool extended family”.
In an interview with RadioTimes.com, Saoirse-Monica Jackson who plays Erin Quinn shared her excitement about the addition to the cast
Ardal O’Hanlon joins our family this year, which is brilliant
Nicola Coughlan who plays Claire added that Eamonn is “a real Irish stereotype” – but that he’s “not a priest”.
Earlier this week we posted the trailer for season two. If you missed out here it is again.

As you can see from the trailer, there are hilarious one-liners we've come to expect from Derry Girls, 90s nostalgia backed with an excellent 90s soundtrack. What has made Derry Girls one of the best shows to grace our screens is its sharp wit but also the very real depiction of what was like to grow up Derry during the troubles. If you cast your memory back to season one it was left on a cliffhanger of the family watching news reports.
There has been no set release date as of yet, the trailer simply says coming soon but some reports have suggested March. Sure that's only weeks away!!
