Will Smith is back in the music game and has recruited long time partner in rhyme DJ Jazzy Jeff for their first musical collaboration in 20 years! (Hands up if you feel super old).
The pair took to Livewire Festival in Blackpool on Sunday, debuting "Get Lit". This is their first song together since the release of "Lovely Daze" in 1998. However, the track is a far cry from the classic hip-hop anthems the pair dropped in the nineties, being a heavy mix of EDM and reggae style rapping.
In contrast to the waaaay up tempo tune, NME reports that Smith addressed the crowd with a few feels prior to the performance stating:
“I wanted to make a song that allowed people to let their light shine. We all have an inner light and sometimes this world…people can say stuff to you and tell you you can’t do and you know you can but when they tell you that it kinda knocks you down a bit right so I wanted to make a record that reminded each and every one of y’all to let your light shine.”
Will "Get Lit" be as big a hit as “Summertime” or “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”? Probably not. But it’s good to see that after two decades the pair still got it!
