Louis Theroux has undoubtedly cemented himself as the pre-eminent television documentary maker in Britain over the past two decades. His shows are absolutely iconic and have both informed and entertained for years.
After making My Scientology Movie, his first forray into feature-length documentary making, he returns to the small screen tonight at 9pm on BBC2. This will be the first episode of a new three-part series, entitled Dark States, which will chronicle some of the largest issues blighting American society.
The episode airing tonight is called 'Heroin Town' and looks at the opioid epidimic that has gripped much of America, focusing on the town of Huntington, West Virginia.
The other two episodes are titled 'Trafficking Sex' and 'Murder In Milwaukee'. Trafficking Sex looks at prostitution and people trafficking in Houston, Texas, whereas 'Murder In Milwaukee', it almost doesn't bear me explaining, is about murder in, of all places, Milwaukee.
