If you haven't watched season one, the short 30 minute episodes and unusual plot made it the most binge-worthy Netflix show of the year. Russian Doll follows Nadia, played by Natasha Lyonne, who keeps dying and re-living her 36th birthday party. The party is hosted by her friend Maxine, who must say "sweet birthday baby" close to a hundred times. The opening song 'Gotta Get Up' from Harry Nilsson also becomes infectious when you hear it on repeat.
The mind-bending concept behind the series is the Russian Doll itself. A Russian Doll is a wooden doll that opens in half to show another doll, and so on and so on, until the last little doll is left at the end. The whole idea is that it is showing the layers of the doll, which you keep opening until you reveal the whole doll. As Nadia is forced to relive her 36th birthday over and over again she finds herself becoming an investigator to her own life and confronts suppressed childhood traumas.

The cleverly written script was captivating viewing so we can't wait to see what the Russian Doll second season has in store. Speaking about the second the show's star and co-creator Natasha Lyonne said: "Same show, just weirder".
The series was originally pitched to Netflix for three seasons with all the creators wanting to make more episodes. What remains to be unseen is the direction the storyline will go in. Time will tell.
A release date for Russian Doll season two has yet to be released.
